What’s the Big Difference?

propaen or natural gas pennsylvania Across America, people tend to use one of a few fuels to heat their homes—heating oil, natural gas, and propane. Ace-Robbins provides propane delivery and heating oil delivery in Northeastern Pennsylvania. We also provide natural gas services and can handle every step of the natural gas conversion process if you decide to add natural gas as an energy source for your home. If you can choose between natural gas and propane to fuel your home, it’s important that you know the difference between the two. Let’s take a look.

Are Propane Gas and Natural Gas the Same?

Propane and natural gas aren’t identical, but they are related and can do many of the same things. They can both heat your home, fuel a vehicle, and run some of the appliances in and around your home.

Natural gas is a substance that’s found beneath the earth’s surface. Natural gas contains within it other gases that can be removed from it through certain processes. Propane is one of those gases. Natural gas can be a liquid, a compressed gas, or an uncompressed gas.

Propane, also called liquefied petroleum gas (or LPG), is stored as a liquid after it is separated from natural gas during processing. So while they’re related, propane and natural gas are not exactly the same. Let’s explore some of the other ways they are related and different.

Storage & Transportation

For most customers, the most noticeable difference between propane and natural gas is how each is stored and delivered. To have a home that uses natural gas, your neighborhood must have natural gas services. Natural gas is delivered to homes through pipelines overseen by a utility. Unless there is an issue, your supply to natural gas once your home is connected to the pipeline is limitless. There’s no need for delivery. There’s no need for a storage tank.

Propane, on the other hand, is highly portable, so it’s ideal for people who live in remote areas or neighborhoods without natural gas pipelines. It can come in a canister small enough to put in your vehicle (usually to power small appliances like a grill) or it can be delivered to your aboveground or underground storage tank. Propane storage tanks come in a variety of sizes, the largest of which are large enough to satisfy a home that uses hundreds of gallons of propane a month for things like home heating, running appliances, and maintaining a whole-house generator. And while you do need propane to be delivered regularly, Ace-Robbins offers a free automatic delivery service, so you’ll never have to worry about running out. We also offer tank monitors for a nominal fee which let you check your tank’s level from anywhere on your phone or mobile device.

Efficiency & Cost

Both propane and natural gas will run your appliances more efficiently and cost-effectively than electricity will. Which is more cost effective for you depends largely on where you live, so it’s wise to do your homework. Propane usually costs more than natural gas, but it’s also capable of generating about twice the heat. Getting a new natural gas line installed costs more than getting a new propane tank, but it could save you money on your energy bills in the long run.

The Bottom Line

Both natural gas and propane offer you many of the same advantages. They both provide efficient and comfortable home heating. They can both power appliances like water heaters and clothes dryers more efficiently than electricity. And they both offer you precise temperature control when cooking.

Whichever you choose for or use in your home, Ace-Robbins can help. We offer safe, reliable, and affordable propane delivery as well as propane tank installation and monitoring. We can also help you through the process of converting your home to natural gas while adhering to the highest standards of safety. We also install, maintain, and repair both propane and gas boilers, furnaces, water heaters, fireplaces, and hearths.

Ace-Robbins helps you get the right dumpster for your residential or commercial project!

dumpster sizes pennsylvania If you have never rented a dumpster, you likely have many questions. Fortunately, Ace-Robbins is here to make the process as easy as 1, 2, 3! Those three steps are:

  1. Using our fast, simple Get a Quote online form. We’ll swiftly get back to you and discuss your project, and give you a FREE quote on your dumpster.
  2. We arrange delivery for when you need your dumpster, and are known for on-time delivery.
  3. When you’re done with your dumpster, call us and we’ll pick it up. You don’t need to be home when we do. Not only do we haul your dumpster away, but we also sweep your driveway so you don’t come home to debris you have to clean up.
  4. One important issue we’ll go over with you is the size of your dumpster. We’ve put together this primer on our dumpster sizes so you have an idea of what you may need for your project.

10-yard dumpster

Our 10-yard dumpster is the smallest size we offer for rental. At 3 feet high, 8 feet wide, and 12 feet long, it can hold on average about four pickup trucks worth of waste. It is perfect for small projects, such as cleaning out an attic or basement. If you are disposing of heavier debris such as concrete or bricks, this is the size to use.

12-yard dumpster

Your project may be a little bigger, like clearing the basement and attic both at once, or renovating a single room. This dumpster is 3 feet high, 8 feet wide, and 12 feet long and may be the one for this kind of job. It can hold about five pickup trucks worth of waste.

15-yard dumpster

If you’re tackling a medium-size renovation like redoing your bathroom or primary suite, you’ll need a bigger dumpster to accommodate bulkier items. This dumpster measures 4 feet high, 8 feet wide, and 14 feet long and can hold approximately six pickup trucks worth of materials.

20-yard and 20-long dumpster

These two dumpsters hold the same amount of material, about eight pickup trucks worth. Which one you choose depends on your needs for the project and your available space for the dumpster. The 20-yard dumpster measures 5½ feet high, 8 feet wide, and 14 feet long. Some people prefer a shorter height, so the 20-long measures 4 feet high, 8 feet wide, and 23 feet long.

30-yard dumpster

Got a big job ahead of you? You may need this size dumpster. It’s designed for larger projects such as a kitchen renovation, a bathroom renovation, or a major house decluttering and cleanout ahead of moving. It measures 6 feet high, 8 feet wide, and 23 feet long. It can hold about 12 pickup trucks worth of material.

40-yard dumpster

This is the largest dumpster we rent. At 7½ feet high, 8 feet wide, and 23 feet long, it holds about 16 pickup trucks worth of stuff. We recommend this size dumpster for major projects, such as a major, multi-room home renovation or emptying out a home after a loved one has passed away or has moved into long-term care.

heating oil supplier pennsylvania Heating season has begun. We’ve already seen the temperatures dip here in Northeastern Pennsylvania. This is the season when your furnace or boiler has to start working harder and harder to keep you and your family comfortably warm. It’s also the season when your need for heating oil is going to increase.

If you’re an Ace-Robbins customer, you’ve got a heating oil provider you can trust. Our dependable and affordable heating oil delivery service will keep you warm all winter long.

Ace-Robbins delivers ultra-low-sulfur heating oil that burns more cleanly than traditional heating oil and produces fewer emissions. So you can feel good about using it in your Pennsylvania home. Let’s take a closer look at what heating oil is and why it’s a good choice for your home.

Where Does Heating Oil Originate From?

Heating oil comes from crude oil that has gone through a refining process called distillation. During the process of distillation, hydrocarbons are removed from the crude oil and become a substance that can be further purified and blended to make the heating oil that fuels your home’s furnace or boiler.

As we mentioned earlier, Ace-Robbins delivers an ultra-low-sulfur heating oil that’s cleaner and more efficient than traditional heating oil. It’s good for your budget and the environment. It should also help your heating system last longer and need fewer repairs.

The Benefits of Using Heating Oil

Now that you know what heating oil is, let’s explore some of the benefits it offers:

gas log sets pennsylvania Winter is just around the corner. If you’re looking for a way to add cozy comfort to your Northeastern Pennsylvania home, Ace-Robbins sells and installs propane fireplaces, propane fireplace inserts, and gas log sets.

Let’s take a closer look at the kind of logs gas fireplaces use.

What Is a Gas Log?

As opposed to the wood that burns in a traditional fireplace, a gas fireplace uses gas logs that include piping and logs made of ceramic (or sometimes cement). The piping directs the propane gas through holes in the logs. Once ignited, the propane produces a steady flame by burning harmlessly on the surface of the ceramic logs.

Getting a fire started with a gas log is much easier than getting a traditional fire started. Gas logs can be ignited with the turn of a knob or the push of a button on a remote control. How easy is that?

Gas Logs vs. Firewood

Propane fireplaces, inserts, and gas log sets have a lot to offer. Here are a few of the benefits you’ll enjoy:

Propane Hearth Products from Ace-Robbins

If you already have a wood-burning fireplace, you can still enjoy the benefits of a propane hearth product with a propane log set or propane fireplace insert. Whatever you choose, Ace-Robbins will see that your hearth product is expertly installed and maintained so you and your family can enjoy it for years and years.

If you don’t have a fireplace at all, now is a great time to explore getting a propane fireplace installed. It’s more affordable than you think. And the experts at Ace-Robbins can help you choose the product that will best suit your needs and preferences. Then we’ll get it installed quickly and safely so you can start enjoying it the first cool night of the season.

And if you’ve got a Propane Heat Maintenance Plan with Ace-Robbins, you can add coverage for your propane gas fireplace.

What’s the difference?

types of dumpsters pennsylvaniaYou may be wondering about this. A dumpster is a dumpster, right?

Nope.

There are different types of dumpsters depending on their application, and whether they are for residential or commercial purposes. We’ll walk through the types of dumpsters and their uses with you here.

Residential dumpsters

As their name implies, residential dumpsters are used in residential settings.

Ace-Robbins carries dumpsters in a wide range of dumpster sizes so we have the right one for your project. Whether you need a small dumpster for a home decluttering project, a medium one for a bathroom renovation, or a large one for emptying the home of a loved one who has passed away, we’ve got you covered.

The Ace-Robbins dumpsters are ideal for residential projects. For starters, they are designed and sized to fit an average residential driveway. However, that design also allows them to provide greater volume in spite of the smaller footprint.

We have extensive experience serving residential customers and it shows in our responsive, courteous service. For starters, we place the dumpster on protective wooden boards, so your driveway is protected. We also clean up the driveway once your dumpster is removed.

Commercial dumpsters

When you think of commercial dumpsters, you most likely think of the ones outside local businesses like restaurants that are designed for regular emptying by waste management companies. They often come with lids, as well as wheels so they can easily be moved around.

There are two kinds of those commercial dumpsters.

Front load dumpsters. As the name suggests, A front load garbage container is emptied into a waste removal truck from the front. It usually has a sloped top to enable trash to be dropped in. The container also has openings on each side for a waste truck to push its prongs and raise the dumpster. Front load dumpsters, which can contain up to eight cubic yards of waste, are a useful tool for daily waste management because of their compact design and slanted front that makes loading easy.

Rear load dumpsters. A rear load dumpster has a slanted back and extending poles. The hinge-and-winch system is used to dump its contents into a truck. Unlike an overhead movement, the truck manually hooks onto the rear load dumpster and pulls it upwards so that the trash will fall in. Rear load dumpsters are a little more difficult to empty waste into because of their height and the rear slope. They can, however, typically hold more waste and their taller design fits in narrower places.

Ace-Robbins’s roll-off dumpsters are also used by local businesses in many applications. They’re staples at construction and renovation sites, as they come in a wide range of sizes. Also, office-based businesses like our dumpsters because they are easy to load, thanks to the hinged door, and are great for getting rid of large volumes of paper and other materials that are no longer needed.

Ultra-Low-Sulfur Heating Oil

clean home energy pennsylvaniaThere are a lot of reasons to be an Ace-Robbins customer. We offer dependable and affordable heating oil delivery. Given how bitterly cold it can get in Pennsylvania during the winter months, you want to have a fuel company you can count on to deliver no matter what. Ace-Robbins is that company.

As a full-service fuel company, we give you the option for free automatic delivery (which greatly reduces the likelihood of a runout), a wireless tank monitor (which we lease to you for a nominal fee), or will-call delivery (monitor your tank and request delivery yourself as needed).

Another great thing about being an Ace-Robbins customer is the quality of our heating oil. The heating oil we deliver is cleaner and more efficient than heating oil has ever been.

The New Oil Heat

The oil heat industry of today isn’t the same as it was in our parents’ time. It continues to make progress. This is evidenced by the products on the market now. They are cleaner and more efficient than ever before. This is in part due to the lower sulfur levels of modern heating oil.

In addition to great service, you get a superior heating oil product from Ace-Robbins. We are a leader in providing the best heating oil product in Pennsylvania. And the heating oil we deliver has an ultra-low sulfur content.

In fact, Ace-Robbins has done more than meet the minimum state requirements for heating oil. We’ve gone above and beyond and held ourselves to a higher standard. Several years ago, Pennsylvania required a 75% reduction in sulfur for heating oil. However, the heating oil Ace-Robbins delivers contains 99% less sulfur than standard heating oil. That’s how committed we are to the environment and the well-being of our customers.

If you’re an Ace-Robbins customer, every gallon of heating oil we deliver to you burns cleaner and produces fewer emissions than standard heating oil. It’s also more efficient and is better for the longevity of your heating system.

Ultra-Low-Sulfur Heating Oil: The Benefits

There are a number of reasons that ultra-low-sulfur heating oil is better than traditional heating oil. Sulfur causes buildups, and buildups increase the need for repairs and add to your maintenance costs. In addition to saving money on maintenance costs for your heating equipment, you’ll also save money on your bills because of the increased efficiency of ultra-low-sulfur heating oil. You can also feel good about using our heating oil, because the ultra-low-sulfur heating oil Ace-Robbins delivers will burn more cleanly and produce fewer emissions than conventional heating oil.

The Ace-Robbins EZ Pay Plan

fuel payments pennsylvaniaIncreases in fuel prices this year have affected us all. Unfortunately, the volatility of energy prices in the global markets is beyond our control. We can’t limit how high fuel prices go in the future or how long the increase lasts. However, we can still help make your winter fuel payments less of a burden. In fact, you could see your winter payments cut in half!

Sound too good to be true? It isn’t’! We help keep fuel costs affordable for our customers by offering them the opportunity to enroll in our EZ Pay Plan. There’s no gimmick. It’s a real and simple way to keep your fuel costs predictable and affordable.

This is a time when being able to keep any part of your budget consistent and predictable is really helpful. That’s what our EZ Pay Plan does—it means you’ll know exactly how much your fuel bill will be every single month. Say goodbye to surprises on your fuel bill. Stop worrying about price increases. Simply pay the same predetermined about every month.

The Savings Are Real

Ace-Robbins can help you pay less for fuel this winter. Want proof? Even though fuel prices skyrocketed, they didn’t pay a penny more than the rate they’d locked in.

We can’t tell you how much fuel prices may increase in the future. But any price increase could make balancing your budget more difficult, especially during the winter months when your fuel usage is also going to increase as you seek to keep your family warm. This is one of the reasons Ace-Robbins encourages our propane and heating oil customers to enroll in our EZ Pay Plan now—before the onset of the heating season. Don’t get saddled with unpredictably high fuel bills this winter. Instead, have your monthly heating costs split into 12 equal payments.

EZ Pay Plan Benefits

There is no additional cost to participate in our EZ Pay Plan. Enrollment is free. However, there are a lot of benefits to enrollment. First of all, the Ace-Robbins EZ Pay Plan makes your fuel payments predictable. When the market is volatile, it’s nice to have a part of your budget you can count on to stay consistent.

However, the EZ Pay Plan doesn’t just make your payments predictable, it also lowers them with the following opportunities to save:

  1. Sign up for automatic payments via EFT (electronic funds transfer), and we’ll give you a $25 fuel credit.
  2. EZ Pay Plan customers get a 15-cent-per-gallon discount on every delivery.
  3. EZ Pay Plan customers who are 65 years old or more get an additional 5-cent-per-gallon discount (for a total of 20 cents per gallon off every delivery).

Ace-Robbins is your top choice for renting a dumpster

dumpster service pennsylvaniaRenting a dumpster for your residential or commercial project is an investment of not only money, but time.

Ace-Robbins makes renting a dumpster easy! All you have to do is contact us to get a quote, then we deliver the dumpster on the day you need it and pick it up when you ask us to.

Something else that makes renting a dumpster easy is knowing how to put it to good use for maximum efficiency. We’ve put together five tips to help you do that.

What’s allowed in your dumpster & what isn’t

If you have questions about what you’re throwing out and whether you can put it in one of our dumpsters, ask us. Due to safety regulations, there are several things that Ace-Robbins cannot accept, such as:

Do some work before loading the dumpster

A little work before you start loading, or even before the dumpster arrives, can make the project go faster and easier for you.

Do you have cardboard boxes? Break them down. They’re easier to carry that way and take up less room in the dumpster.

Break down furniture for easier loading and so it’s more compact. For example, a bed can be broken down, so the headboard and footboard lie flat with the side rails on top of them.

Be strategic when loading

Another way to prepare is by knowing what should go in first. Lighter items such as flattened boxes, pillows, and furniture pieces should go in first. The heavier items on top will compact them so they take up less room.

Bag light items such as papers, Styrofoam, and fabrics so they don’t blow away. Put them on the bottom of the dumpster as well so they can be compacted by the heavier items on top.

Use the door

Our dumpsters have a door that swings open. It may seem like more fun to just toss stuff over the side into the dumpster, but using the door makes the job faster, easier, and safer.

Start at the back of the dumpster and work your way back towards the door. This also allows you to distribute the load more evenly for safe hauling.

Know when to stop

Our dumpsters have a maximum fill line. That line indicates the limit for safe hauling. Stop when or before you reach it. If the load goes past the fill line, we may not be able to haul it. You’ll lose time removing the items above the fill line. It’s easier and more efficient to let us know that you need another dumpster.
