Quick: How much propane or heating oil is in your tank right now?
If you’re an Ace-Robbins Will Call customer, the amount of fuel in your tank should always be somewhere in the back of your mind – especially during a cold snap, when you’re probably using more of it than you realize hour by hour.
If you’re a person with a knack for that kind of detail, you will probably have a good sense of when it’s time for a heating oil or propane delivery – which you should always do when the tank is no less than one-quarter full.
But if you’re like the rest of us, the distractions of life – work, school, kids, and other responsibilities – can quickly take over the space in your mind that used to be reserved for how full your tank is, until one day (hopefully not on the coldest day of the year), you find yourself in a no heat emergency.
And that’s no fun.
If you’re a Will Call customer, check your heating oil or propane tank today – if you need a top-off, early to mid-fall is one of the best times to get it, since we’re not yet in the period of peak demand for the season. Wait another couple of weeks and you could pay more for your propane or heating oil – and you will be in a longer line to get it, too.
Of course you can completely avoid having to remember to fill your tank if you sign up for FREE automatic fuel delivery from Ace-Robbins. Available for heating oil or propane, automatic delivery works by estimating your fill-ups based on your past usage and the current weather. With automatic delivery, you will never have to think about managing your fuel supply again.
For reliable heating oil and propane deliveries anywhere in our Pennsylvania service area, no one beats the pros at Ace-Robbins. Contact us today to learn more or become an Ace-Robbins customer!

Choosing a boiler is an important decision for you as a homeowner – choose the right model and you might spend a little more up front, but you could save yourself a bundle on energy bills for years to come; choose the wrong one and…well, sometimes, you get what you pay for.
One decision you will have to make when choosing a boiler is whether to choose a condensing or non-condensing model. Let’s take a look at what that means.
A boiler works by extracting heat from fuel as it burns. In both condenser and non-condenser boilers, that heat is first pushed through a heat exchanger, which transfers energy to the water that runs through your radiators and baseboards. The problem is no combustion system is 100 percent efficient, so some of the heat produced is lost along the way.
In a condensing boiler, however, the exhaust from the fuel burning process is routed to a secondary heat exchanger (a process that never happens in a non-condensing boiler), which extracts more heat and diverts it back into your heating system. By pulling more heat from the fuel burning process, and by running cooler overall, a condensing boiler operates about 10 to 15 percent more efficiently than a non-condensing boiler.
Why aren’t all boilers condensing? Two reasons: First, non-condensing boilers are cheaper to manufacture because they don’t have to deal with the secondary heat exchange process – which means fewer parts and less robust materials are needed for manufacturing.
The second reason? Because it requires an expert to install a condensing boiler in a way that ensures you’ll spend less on fuel than with a non-condensing boiler.
Fortunately, you’ll find those experts at Ace-Robbins.
Our highly trained technicians will assess whether your home heating system will be able to keep you comfortable while operating at the lower temperatures that provide a condensing boiler with its advantage. And as with all our heating system installations, we’ll get it done quickly – and get it done right the first time.

Last month, we talked about some of the compelling reasons to have a whole house propane generator for your Pennsylvania home. This week, we’ll talk how to choose a model that’s right for you based on three key considerations: size, placement, and cost.
How big of a whole house generator do you need? Well, that depends primarily on two things: how large your home is and what equipment you want to power during an outage. Taken together, these make up the electric load your whole house generator needs to meet.
A good way to decide on how big a generator you will need is to break your usage down into two categories: Essentials (lights, refrigerator, sump pump, furnace fan, security system, TV/computers, and microwave), and high-wattage items, such as your A/C or heat pump, clothes dryer, water heater, and oven or stove.
Generators come in a wide range of capacities, and prices vary accordingly. A small, easy-to-place 8 kilowatt (kW) unit, for example, can operate power essentials such as lights, refrigerator, TV, and other small appliances. A large 25 kW commercial-grade generator, on the other hand, can easily run a home HVAC system in addition to those items.
Whole house generators can be as large or even slightly larger than the outdoor unit of your central A/C, depending on the power output – so you’ll need space to place it. Whole house generators also need to be near electricity, and they must be placed to comply with flood, noise and electrical codes – big reasons why a whole house generator must be installed by a professional.
Stand-by propane generators range in price between $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the size and capacity of the unit. The more you want to power, the higher the price.
If you have been thinking about investing in a whole house propane generator, now is a GREAT time to jump in: For a limited time, you can save $500 on a backup generator installation! Contact Ace-Robbins today to get a FREE, no obligation estimate on a propane generator for your Pennsylvania home.
